What is the Natural Language Report Agent

If you've ever needed a report out of Tracker and didn't know where to start or want to go hunting through menus and filters, then the Natural Language Report Agent is for you.

Instead of clicking through a report builder, choosing fields, setting up grouping, and configuring filters one by one, you just type what you want - in plain English, the way you'd ask a colleague - and Tracker builds the report for you, live.

It works across the whole system - jobs, candidates, placements, companies, activities, marketing, financials, timesheets, users - a wealth of report views' worth of data underneath it, all reachable from one prompt box.

So what does that actually mean day to day? A few things.

First, speed. What used to take a saved report, or a request to someone else, now takes as long as it takes to type a sentence. If you can describe it, you can probably ask for it.

Second, it's flexible. You can combine a time period, a person, a status, a comparison, all in one prompt, and it figures out how to structure that.

And third, it lowers the bar for who can self-serve. You don't need to know how the underlying data is modelled, or which report view has the field you want - you just ask the question you actually have.

Suggested Report Prompts

When you first access the natural language report agent you have a number of suggestions to help get you started, these are divided into the different report areas.

Clicking into one of these will show the different report views available for that area.

You can then click into the report view and for the suggested report prompts.

On each of these different reports we get a description of what it will report on but also how that might be presented for example as a pie chart, with counts, as a table, with trends etc.

Note, there are navigation options to go back to all areas or just go back up a level.

Clicking on one of these tiles, will produce the report for you.

Using your own Prompts

Perhaps you’re not sure what report area or report view you need. That’s not a problem, as you can type in or dictate your own prompts from scratch.

This could be a simple prompts such as “Rank users by number of jobs open”, or more complex with multiple directions “Give me a report showing “companies by total job values for all jobs (open and closed) where the job was created this year, order by highest to lowest total value. Include total value per client, client type, company status, company owner and vertical in the results table.”

In the Report

Once the report is run, the data is displayed. That might be just as a table, or be accompanied by a report graph, depending on the report you’ve run.

At the bottom is the prompt you ran. You can edit this and re-run the prompt to update or manipulate your report, or run a new prompt.

There is also the option to return to the first screen and start again.

Report option

With each run report, there are options to View in full screen, print and download in a variety of formats.

Saving the Report

If you like the report, and would want to come back to it again later, you can choose to “Keep this Report”, in the top right of the window.

Here, you get the same Save options as you would if you had created this from the Reports area.

Summary

That's the Natural Language Report Builder - no report-building screens, no saved filters to configure in advance, no waiting on someone else to pull it for you.

You ask the question you actually have, in your own words, and Tracker does the rest.

And it's not just a one-off, if it's a report you'll want again, save it, and it's there waiting for you next time, no need to remember the prompt or rebuild it from scratch
